BSD City's Integrated Development Earns National Strategic Project Status

The integrated development project in BSD City has been officially included in the list of 14 National Strategic Projects (Proyek Strategis Nasional / PSN) of 2024, approved by President Joko Widodo. According to the government's official statement, the project is projected to attract investments of up to Rp18.54 trillion — a figure that underscores the scale of confidence placed in BSD City as a national growth driver.

The Spokesperson of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Haryo Limanseto, confirmed that the project has received direct support from the Minister of Health through the issuance of an official recommendation letter for the development of a Special Economic Zone (Kawasan Ekonomi Khusus / KEK) within the BSD City area.

It is important to note that the integrated development does not cover the entirety of BSD City. The project is concentrated on a focused area of approximately 59.6 hectares, specifically dedicated to three key pillars: education, biomedical, and digital sectors. This development also aligns with plans for an integrated Biomedical Campus, designed to elevate the quality of both education and national healthcare services.

Looking ahead, this zone is planned to evolve into a fully designated Special Economic Zone, anchored in education, health research, digital economy, technology development, healthcare services, and biomedical advancement. The Biomedical Area development in BSD City carries an ambitious 30-year timeline, with the first phase already inaugurated through the Grand Opening of the Biomedical Campus in 2024.

From an infrastructure standpoint, the eastern portion of the KEK zone is already served by the Serpong–Balaraja Toll Road, while the western section will be further connected through Serpong–Balaraja Toll Road Section 1B. The project is expected to generate approximately 10,065 jobs both directly and indirectly, deliver foreign exchange savings of Rp10.1 trillion, and produce foreign exchange earnings of approximately Rp5.6 trillion from the health and biomedical sectors alone — reinforcing BSD City's position as one of Indonesia's most strategically significant urban corridors.
